For most Muslims and non-Muslims of today, this type of information is unknown and has never been mentioned in any of the history books. There are many documents, treaties, legislation and resolutions that were passed between 1600s and 1800s that show that Muslims were in fact here and were very active in the communities in which they lived. Treaties such as Peace and Friendship that was signed on the Delaware River in the year 1787 bear the signatures of Abdel-Khak and Muhammad Ibn Abdullah. This treaty details our continued right to exist as a community in the areas of commerce, maritime shipping, and current form of government at that time which was in accordance with Islam. Is Resting being One God’s Traits?
In the Old Testament, in the Book of Genesis, Chapter 2, Verse 2, the following is written:
“By the seventh day, God had finished the work he had been doing so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.”
All are in agreement; God, His Prophet and all of God’s wise creatures know that the word “rest” implies getting tired. This trait is a characteristic of the mortal creatures, existing and depending on God. God is the Creator, existing by Himself. Nothing tires Him, whether large or small; and if God wanted to do anything, he would say, “Be”, and it would be. So, it is not wise to give this characteristic to Almighty God, otherwise, He would be the same as His creatures—needful, and in order to carry out jobs, he would require tools and machinery and would have to work and use energy. Almighty God is the Creator. It is not smart to say that He rested on the seventh day, as in the Old Testament. Continue reading this post…
GOD in Islamic Perspective
And (it is the important point) that source or cause should not itself be just a ‘Transient’; otherwise it will itself need a source or cause to bring it into existence. And this chain of cause and effect MUST stop on a chain which needs no outside source or cause for its existence. It means that the final source or cause of bringing this universe into existence MUST be ’self-existent.’
It is interesting to note that even the atheists accept this point, because they say that nothing can come out of nothing, and, therefore, the basic source of existence must be eternal. It is from ever and will remain for ever.
Now comes the first difference. The atheists say that, that eternal source of existence is ‘Matter’. The believers say that, that eternal source of existence is God. Here it is enough to establish a common ground of belief, and that is the faith that the basic source or cause of the existence of the universe is Eternal - without beginning and without end. How does Islam Regard Other Religions?
Islam’s insistence on the absolute unit and transcendence of God is an affirmation of God’s lordship over all men. To hold God as Creator means that all men are His creatures. Muslims therefore, believe that God has not granted any special status to any person or group. His love, providence, care for and judgement of all men must be one. In Islam, all people, Muslims and non-Muslims, stand to God in identically the same relationship, i.e. they are judged objectively by the same law. This is made clear in the following verses of the Holy Qur’an.
“On that day (the Day of Judgement), men will come forth in sundry bodies so that they may be shown their works. So he who does an atom’s weight of good will see it and he who does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.” (99:6-8) Continue reading this post…
Rationality in Islam [3]; Towards Eternal Life
It is unbelievable that the aim of all the complex laws of evolution is simply to first transform a simple and invaluable being into a highly developed intellectual being like Avicenna (lbn-Sina) or Einstein and then to annihilate him altogether. It does not stand to reason that annihilation should be the fate of the entire human race and its culture. Such a theory is incredible, unreasonable and incompatible with the knowledge, wisdom and skill of the Creator. This looks as if a vainglorious person builds a carefully designed and well-executed magnificent workshop or factory and then blows it into pieces.
Will it not be more logical if we admit that life continues in another form after death and the process of evolution does not come to an end ? Here we can give a beautiful example. Our life in this world is like that of a foetus which after passing through several evolutionary stages, is transferred to a wider and more perfect environment of which it could not even have imagined (if it had any power of imagination). Introduction to Islam [2]
The most fundamental Islamic teachings about God are contained in these verses, i.e. that there is only one God Who is eternal, unique, and has no blood relation to any human beings. Different prophets also gave their own descriptions of God which are also related in the Qur’an. Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) says: “My Lord is He Who gives life and causes death.” (2:258) After him, Moses (peace be upon him), when confronting the Pharaoh, says: “Our Lord is He Who gave each thing its form and nature then guided it aright.” (20:50) These two verses both describe Allah in His relation to human beings, but of course Allah’s being extends far beyond His relation to mankind. Introduction to Islam
“Islam”[1] means “submitting or surrendering one’s will to the will of Allah”.[2] Mankind naturally submits to Allah; this instinct was born with him on the day of his creation. In reality, the entire universe - the stars, the planets, and the oceans - submits to the will of Allah through its ordered workings. Modern science calls this phenomenon “the laws of nature,” but these laws of nature, from an Islamic perspective, are not just any laws of nature but the laws of Allah for nature. Human beings, as creatures of Allah who are in need of Him throughout their entire lives, must also surrender their wills and desires to the will of the Almighty, the Creator. Introduction to Hinduism
The Bhagavad Gita tells a story of a moral crisis faced by Arjuna, which is solved through the interaction between Arjuna, a Pandava warrior hesitating before battle, and Krishna, his charioteer and teacher. The Bhagavad Gita relates a brief incident in the main story of a rivalry and eventually a war between two branches of a royal family. In that brief incident - a pause on the battlefield just as the battle is about to begin - Krishna, one chief on one side (also believed to be the Lord incarnate), is presented as responding to the doubts of Arjuna. The poem is the dialogue through which Arjuna’s doubts were resolved by Krishna’s teachings. Continue reading this post…
Reflections on Islam and Modern Life
FEW subjects arouse more passion and debate among Muslims today than the encounter between Islam and modern thought. The subject is of course vast and embraces fields ranging from politics to sacred art, subjects whose debate often causes volcanic eruptions of emotions and passions and vituperations which hardly lead to an objective analysis of causes and a clear vision of the problems involved. Nor is this debate which consumes so much of the energies of Muslims and students of Islam helped by the lack of clear definition of the terms of the debate and an insight into the actual forces involved. The whole discussion is also paralyzed by a psychological sense of inferiority and a sense of enfeeblement before the modern world which prevents most modernized Muslims from making a critical appraisal of the situation and of stating the truth irrespective of the fact whether it is fashionable and acceptable to current opinion or not. Let us then begin be defining what we mean by modern thought. Continue reading this post…
